Situated in North Africa, Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East and the majority of the population live on the banks of the Nile.

Egypt is renowned for its ancient history and has been the inspiration for many Hollywood films including Cleopatra.

With a history as rich as Egypt, it is not surprising that there are many wonderful monuments such as the Sphinx, Valley of the Kings and the Pyramids of Giza. In fact, the Pyramid of Khufu is the largest Egyptian pyramid and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the World which still exists.

Egypt is a land of mystery and Agatha Christie brought romance and crime with her book "Murder on the Nile".

Egypt's capital city is Cairo which is the largest city in Africa and the Arab World. Sights worth seeing in Cairo are the Pyramids, Saladin's Citadel, the Hanging Church, the Sphinx and the Cairo Tower.

Other cities include Alexandria which is the second largest city in Egypt. Alexandria was once the most famous city in Egypt and was home to Pharos, the lighthouse which was one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a necropolis of Alexandrian tombs and statues.

Egypt has the pefect climate for water sports and cruising. The majority of the summer is dry with rainfall averages of around only 2 to 5mm per year south of Cairo. Snow can fall on the mountains of Sinai and some of the north coastal cities but rarely in Alexandria.

In the summer, the temperatures average between 80 °F (27 °C) and 90 °F (32 °C) and up to 109 °F (43 °C) on the Red Sea coast.
